This half size card provides one serial port configurable as RS422 with and with-out hand-shaking, or RS485 full or half duplex. This card has on-board zener diodes giving transient spike protection to the inputs, making this card ideal for factory automation installations. The megabaud data transfer rates and the 128 byte deep FIFO, coupled with the RS485 Half Duplex Autogating guarantees uncompromising performance and fault-free use. The PCI RS422/485 Velocity card uses the 16750 UART, two generations beyond the industry standard 16550. The UART clock can be set through software to provide maximum baud rates of either 921,600 baud, 460,800 baud, 230,400 baud, or 115,200 baud (standard PC). Low-Profile PCI is a new PCI card standard for space-constrained system designs. Electronically identical to standard PCI, Low-Profile PCI is a form factor defining a shorter card and new mounting bracket.
The UC-320 uses Brainboxes new industry leading UART BB16PCI958 and supports both 3.3V / 5V standards. Increasingly, modern PCs are coming with 3.3V PCI slots. The change from 5V to 3.3V signalling on the PCI bus is a result of the technical advances made by leading PC manufacturers such as Dell, HP and IBM to increase system speed while reducing onboard PC power consumption. What this means is that many new PC systems no longer use 5V signalling on the PCI bus, and 5V-only PCI cards cannot be used in these PCs. As part of our continued commitment to designing and manufacturing leading edge serial RS232 technology, we now offer the Universal PCI range that can work in both 5V and 3.3V signalling environments. This allows new and existing customers to have an easy migration path to this new technology.
